🎮 Train on a joystick if you can

The real exam uses a physical joystick. Spring resistance, tilt range and fine control feel nothing like a finger on a screen or arrow keys — train on taps alone and the stick will get away from you on the day.

Plug in a USB joystick and press one button. The game picks it up immediately, in every mode, and the status badge turns green.

No joystick yet? Use the keyboard — it drives the same push/pull/turn model, so it is far closer to the real thing than dragging.

🔊 Cognitive tasks are spoken, not shown

Questions are read aloud so nothing covers the playfield — keep flying and answer out loud. A small chip in the HUD counts down your answer window.

Press Y or C once you have answered and the correct answer is read back to you. Let the timer run out and it is read anyway, so you always find out.

Steer your ball (the white circle) with whatever you have — keyboard or joystick both use the same scheme: push forward = accelerate, pull back = brake, left/right = turn.
Read the TARGET badge to see which colour is being requested.
Sit completely on top of a target of that colour — the dot must be fully inside your ball, not just clipped at the edge, or the ring will not start counting. Hold it until the ring fills (1 second on the exam preset), then press Space or the collect button.
Right colour = +1 · wrong colour = miss · keep clear of the obstacles and the arena edge. You fly straight through an obstacle rather than bouncing off it, but it still counts as a hit.
Consecutive clean captures build a combo. Any collision breaks it — the screen shakes, the controller rumbles, and the streak resets to zero.
In Practice mode only, Reset Position (R or B) drops the ball back to centre mid-run without touching your score or the clock. Exam mode has no such escape.
SIAP-style scoring: nothing is deducted. Misses do not eat your score — they show up in how balanced and accurate the session reads.

⚠ The ball is meant to be hard to control.

The inertia and the drift are deliberate. Exam joysticks are tuned to feel over-responsive and laggy on purpose, to see how steady you stay under pressure.

Tip: move in small increments and let the ball coast. Do not fight it with hard corrections in the opposite direction.

Phase 1 — Memorize: Study the codes across the grid matrix and chunk by row/column.
Phase 2 — Interference: Solve arithmetic / digit reversals to challenge working memory.
Phase 3 — Recall: Retrieve codes and locations using multiple choice or grid clicks.

Mock Exam

Study — a generated flight document. The clock is a ceiling; leave early if you are done. From Standard upward it is deliberately too long to finish, so decide what is worth committing.
Distractor — spoken mental arithmetic. A fixed number of questions, not a clock, so everyone absorbs the same interference. The passage is gone by then.
Recall — every question at once under one clock, five options each. Answer what you know first and come back to the rest.

Mock Exam is the reference battery's own paper: one flight, 16 questions, 3:30 to read and 4:00 to answer. Turn it off to run the difficulty tiers, which stretch to five sectors and 24 questions.

Every session generates a fresh document — new crew, aircraft, route, loads and times. Nothing repeats.
